For the selling teams, it's time to look at their needs for the upcoming season, and as we know, the Canadiens are one of those teams, although it's not expected that Kent Hughes will complete as many trades as last year.
However, rumors surrounding defenseman Joel Edmundson have been abundant in recent weeks, but unfortunately, his injury has somewhat complicated the task of the Canadiens' general manager.
But as we know that Kent Hughes is quite creative, it is possible that the plan to trade the veteran defenseman is still in place, and we have some new information on this matter.
According to the informant Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, and via the reputable Darren Dreger, it seems that the Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers are in serious discussions for a transaction involving Edmundson.
This information comes from Darren Dreger, one of the most credible informants in the hockey world.
Beaudoin went even further in his remarks by mentioning that it is likely that Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi would also be involved, so that the Oilers can free up money on their salary cap. It is also possible that Ken Holland will add a draft pick to make Puljujarvi more attractive, as he is having a miserable season in Edmonton.
So, here is Beaudoin's proposal:
It could look like the Brett Kulak trade completed between these two clubs last year.
Would you do it?
For now, this is obviously another speculation, but maybe this time, a transaction between the Canadiens and Oilers will actually materialize.
Edmundson would solidify the Oilers' defense, and the Canadiens could take a chance with the Finnish forward, as Hughes did by acquiring Denis Gurianov from the Dallas Stars in exchange for Evgeny Dadonov.
A story to follow.
