Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Canadiens: well-known insider issues serious warning to fans

Even though there are only seven games left in the Canadiens' season and the team is officially eliminated from the playoffs for a second straight year, the hot topic among fans is undoubtedly the Pierre-Luc Dubois situation.

And let's just say that Elliotte Friedman's comments earlier this week, stating that the chances of the Quebec-born forward eventually wearing the Canadiens' jersey are 95%, won't do anything to calm the excitement that the team's fans may have.

We know with 95% certainty that he will play in Montreal one day.

However, Dubois will be eligible for salary arbitration during the summer, and unless Kent Hughes acquires him through a trade, we'll have to wait until the summer of 2024 when the Winnipeg Jets' forward will be an unrestricted free agent.

Many hockey fans might think that Dubois' arrival in Montreal is a sure thing and that, at worst, he will join as a free agent after the 2023-2024 season, but not so fast!

A Warning from Darren Dreger

As reported by Charles-Alexis Brisebois of Danslescoulisses.com, it seems that the Jets organization hasn't thrown in the towel with their forward, and according to TSN insider Darren Dreger, the team will do everything they can to keep him in Manitoba long-term.

We must be cautious. Dreger is clear, and he is explicitly warning fans. The Jets won't let him go so easily, and they won't give any gifts to the Habs.

But does this mean he will receive a contract offer from the Jets?

Not necessarily, because, as Dreger points out, the team won't just hand him over to the Canadiens. Even if Dubois demanded a trade involving only Montreal, Kevin Cheveldayoff would certainly want to get the maximum value for his services.

We still don't know if Pierre-Luc Dubois will end up with the Canadiens, but one thing is certain: this situation will undoubtedly be one of the hottest during the offseason.
