Over the past few months and since the draft, despite serious rumors involving names like Trevor Zegras, Patrik Laine, Rutger McGroarty, and Martin Necas, no significant trade has been made by the Canadiens (at least, at the time of writing).
We know that Kent Hughes has tried; we know that Kent Hughes has negotiated to attempt to finalize some major trades but we are still waiting for that elusive new top-6 forward.
Nevertheless, here's an encouraging statement for the fans.
He mentioned this in passing on Tony Marinaro's podcast in the last few hours.
According to McCagg, the two best targets for Kent Hughes are Patrik Laine and Rutger McGroarty.
After all, it makes sense because these are two players who are likely to be traded.
The first has outright requested a trade, while the second has stated that he does not want to sign with the Winnipeg Jets. They will therefore have to trade him.
Why hasn't Kent Hughes announced a trade yet, even if he is interested in certain players?
Probably simply because he is patient, which is a very good thing.
Moreover, McCagg might be right, if Kent Hughes ever takes advantage of the Edmonton Oilers' misfortunes to make a deal with them, a deal that would allow them to free up some salary cap space.
This is exactly what was discussed yesterday:
We will have the answer within a few days.
