Following the TWO offer sheets made yesterday by the St. Louis Blues, in an attempt to pry away the two young players two offer sheets and Philip Broberg from the Edmonton Oilers, there has been a significant wave of panic in Alberta.
The Oilers are already about $400,000 over the NHL salary cap, and they now have less than 6 days to find a way to match the offers made by the Blues.
On this matter, none other than TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie has spoken out.
In his opinion, with "a little creativity," the Oilers would be able to match the offers and retain their two promising first-round picks.
Wow. This is exactly what Edmonton fans wanted to hear.
Broberg, 23, is indeed a first-round pick by the Oilers in 2019 and was the 8th overall pick.
Holloway, 22, is also a first-round pick by the Oilers, but in his case, he was the 14th overall pick in 2020.
See Renaud Lavoie's exact statement on the matter.
This is a big story to follow this week in the NHL, and it has certainly added a lot of spice to this August, especially since the Montreal Canadiens could possibly try to take advantage of the situation.
