Kirby Dach's Time with the Montreal Canadiens Would Be Over if It Were Up to Snake

When Kent Hughes acquired Kirby Dach in 2022, he took a chance that the forward would revive his career with the Montreal Canadiens.

It all started well before injuries once again came back to haunt the Saskatchewan native.

The multitude of injuries Dach has suffered since the beginning of his career, including during his junior hockey days, now make him a fragile player. So much so that the outspoken Simon "Snake" Boisvert is beginning to lose hope in number 77 and thinks the Habs should pull the plug on him the next time he gets injured.

Boisvert's perspective is that the Habs should capitalize on Dach's current value while he's not yet injured. The next injury could be a breaking point for the forward, and Kent Hughes might as well act before finding himself in the same situation as the Philadelphia Flyers did with Nolan Patrick.

Snake even wonders if this isn't what the Blackhawks did, pulling the plug on Dach by trading him to the Habs.

In a way, I agree with Boisvert. The Habs will indeed need to analyze the situation before it's too late. That's also what co-host Mathias Brunet thinks, noting that Dach's future will be determined during his contract renegotiation in a few years (his contract expires in the summer of 2026), not with his next injury.

Where I struggle with Boisvert's philosophy is that he only applies it to Dach and not to everyone else. With this viewpoint, we'd also have to pull the plug on Kaiden Guhle, Juraj Slafkovsky, Arber Xhekaj, Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, Alex Newhook (and the list goes on), all of whom are frequently injured...

For now, we need to give time to someone who missed nearly an entire season of play. Hopefully, he will regain his confidence soon, and his performance will gradually return to the level it was before his surgery.
