As you know, with the Pittsburgh Penguins' downfall in the overall standings, and with the fact that he will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA), star player Jake Guentzel is constantly coming up in trade rumors.

The chances of him being traded are very real.

The Canadiens again involved in a trade as a third party?

Indeed, it is very possible that Kent Hughes is involved again. See what the renowned Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff just reported:

"For the first time ever, a third-party broker netted a 3rd Rd Pick Coyotes last year in the Patrick Kane trade.

If the Pens Jake Guentzel is ultimately on the move, an involved third-party could get a haul to eat money.!"

Interesting! And which team is currently best positioned to act as a third party?

Yes, the Montreal Canadiens!

"1. Montreal Canadiens. Projected cap space: $5.65 million. Remaining retention slots: 1

The Habs always monitors the market prices on the third-party broker game. (third team involved in a trade to retain salary) You can bet they will be part of it especially if Jake Allen stays."

And there you have it!

Moreover, this is a technique that Kent Hughes has already used several times in the past, so it's certainly a new possibility.

Could Hughes take advantage of the Jake Guentzel trade to get his hands on a 2nd or 3rd round pick? (simply by retaining salary)

It seems possible! Keep it in mind!
