The reason Rutger McGroarty has not been traded yet is finally revealed
We have new information regarding the trade talks between the Montreal Canadiens and the Winnipeg Jets involving Rutger McGroarty.
As you know, McGroarty is an extremely promising offensive prospect who informed the Jets he would not sign with them, forcing Winnipeg to trade him.
Knowing that Kent Hughes is looking for a young forward like him, McGroarty's name was immediately linked to the Canadiens.
Reputable insiders, such as Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger, have confirmed that the Jets and Canadiens have had phone discussions to finalize a trade involving McGroarty.
Today, we have new information.
Rutger McGroarty trade: a bold request has been made
Everyone expected the young player to be traded during or immediately after the draft, but he is still with the Winnipeg Jets.
Why?
It seems he made very specific demands, particularly to the Montreal Canadiens.
«While a trade seemed imminent at the last draft, all plans fell through. And it was no coincidence, according to Winnipeg Free Press journalist Mike McIntyre.
In an interview with Andrew Paterson on the Winnipeg Sports Talk podcast, he explained the reasons why McGroarty has not yet been traded.
According to his information, the teams that wanted to acquire him were put off by the demands of the 20-year-old forward and his camp.»

What are these demands? They include guarantees of a spot in the lineup, assured playing time, and minutes on the power play.
Clearly, Kent Hughes is not ready to promise him a spot in the lineup, significant playing time, and power play minutes, which is perfectly understandable.
It's interesting to learn that the reason the trade has not been finalized is not because Kent Hughes' offer does not interest the Jets, but because the player has significant contractual demands.
This is a situation we will need to continue to follow closely.
Obviously, before acquiring McGroarty, Kent Hughes must ensure he can sign him.
McGroarty, 20, was the 14th overall pick in 2022 (1st round). He is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward who accumulated an incredible 52 points in 36 games this season in the NCAA.
