On August 6, 2023, the Canadiens completed a three-team trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks, involving no less than 12 assets.
In hindsight, it's clear that Kent Hughes pulled off a bit of magic with this trade. Think we're exaggerating?

Casey DeSmith was then traded for a 2025 third-round pick and Tanner Pearson.
Jeff Petry was sent to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Nathan Légaré was traded for Arnaud Durandeau at the end of the year, but Durandeau did not re-sign with the team.
In short, here's what Kent Hughes gave up and received:
It's really solid, and quite the return for Hoffman and Pitlick, let's admit it.
Will Kent Hughes pull off another transaction this August? Let's not forget the one involving Sean Monahan two years ago.
