As General Manager Kent Hughes prepares for his third trade deadline, it seems far away, but there's his 2022 trade with the Colorado Avalanche that has recently come back into the news.

The trade involving Justin "JB" Barron with the Avalanche

We just learned that Joe Sakic was REALLY insistent on acquiring Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens.

The former GM (now president) of the Avalanche called Kent Hughes for 17 consecutive days before managing to convince the Canadiens' GM to accept an offer for Lehkonen.

17 consecutive days!

And Artturi Lehkonen has been a solid acquisition for Colorado, but still, here's a good one.

"The boss of MacKinnon and Lehkonen has already told Pierre LeBrun (who spoke about it on BPM Sports yesterday) that he considers he paid too much for Lehkonen's services. He said it during the 2022 playoffs (the year of the Cup) during the final.

Justin Barron and a second-round pick in 2024, is that too much? Really?"

It's rare to see a GM (or former GM?) make such comments, but it proves they still really like Barron in Colorado.

We know that Nathan MacKinnon has always been a big fan of his.
