Yaroslav Askarov trade drama: Preds GM drops bombshell as two teams race to secure his services
In the past few hours, we reported that young goaltender Yaroslav Askarov has officially requested a trade from the Nashville Predators.
This is big news, revealed today by Kevin Weekes.
A few hours after this news broke, Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz has already responded and made an official announcement.
«Official statement from Barry Trotz and the Preds on Yaroslav Askarov's trade request:
'We are aware of today's report and expect the player to report to training camp and compete for a job in September.'»
- Via journalist John Glennon
This says a lot.
Knowing this, another source has just named two teams that are seriously in the race.
Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens will face competition from the Carolina Hurricanes and San Jose Sharks for Yaroslav Askarov
Even though some are questioning whether Askarov should be a priority for the Habs.
According to information from Michael Gallagher, the competition is mainly between the Carolina Hurricanes and the San Jose Sharks, at least for now.
This will be a situation to watch closely, but it really seems like young Askarov has played his last game within the Nashville Predators organization.
He's a big name and an excellent young player who is now at the center of NHL trade rumors.
