In the last few minutes, new Florida Panthers defenseman Ben Chiarot agreed to comment on the trade, including to TVA Sports' Louis Jean:
"In the last few weeks, it was clear that I was going to be traded. Not playing the last game meant that something was coming soon. I got the call from the Panthers and I'm excited to join one of the best teams in the league."
"It's hard to leave your team and friends behind. Montreal was my home for three years. My family and I loved the city. Obviously, I'll always remember reaching the Stanley Cup finals. That's something I'll remember for the rest of my life."
A nice message to the fans. Obviously, Chiarot loved his fans and his city.
To J-F Chaumont, he said this:
"It's hard to leave. I loved playing for the Canadiens. I considered Montreal my 2nd home for the past three years. The fans could cheer for a blocked shot, a big check or a blocked pass, not just a goal or an assist."
Here's where it gets really interesting. When speaking with Sportsnet reporter Eric Engels, Chiarot was asked if he would be interested in signing with the Montreal Canadiens this summer.
Check out his answer:
"(if they call me) I will definitely answer, absolutely! I loved my time in Montreal. I have nothing but positive things to say about the organization and the city. It was everything I hoped it would be. Montreal fit me and my personality very well. I love Montreal and would re-sign with the CH without any hesitation. (if the opportunity presents itself)" - Ben Chiarot
Wow, a real one! It gives you hope! Either way, good luck in Florida, Ben!
