Indeed, the former NHL enforcer recently stated on BPM Sports that he would like to see Bergeron join the Canadiens. He believes Kent Hughes should call him now to gauge his interest in the matter.
He wants to see Patrice Bergeron with the Montreal Canadiens.
The connection is clear; the two men not only had an agent-client relationship, but are now very good friends. Bergeron, having grown up in Quebec, knows the city and the organization. He could well come and be trained by Hughes, much like Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier are doing now (who have never played for the CH).
However, let's not forget that the next campaign will be the centenary of the Boston Bruins. Imagine how it would be received in Boston to see him arrive with another organization, especially the CH, during these celebrations. Bergeron is a man with a lot of class, and he would never put himself in such a situation.
One thing is certain, Bergeron will be in high demand in the coming months and he will take his time to make the best possible decision for himself. As a family man, he may prioritize the one he has lived with for the past 20 years. But Hughes is also part of his family, and he would return to live near his own in Quebec!
Let's however let the dust settle a little and give him time to refocus in his new retiree universe. At only 38 years old, he still has plenty of time ahead of him, and it's certain that he will take the best career option for him and his loved ones!
