Statement from Connor McDavid that is generating a lot of reaction regarding his future with the Edmonton Oilers

At 26 years old, it's safe to say that Connor McDavid is the best hockey player on the planet. He just had the best season of his career with 153 points, including 64 goals, and he added 20 points in 12 playoff games.

Unfortunately for Oilers fans, the team was eliminated for a second consecutive year by the eventual Stanley Cup champions, and the window for the Alberta team may be closing soon.

In fact, on this subject, as reported by Alexandre Desrosiers, from the site Rumeursdetransaction.com, number 97 is under contract with the Oilers until 2026 and when questioned about a possible contract extension, his answer was rather evasive.

"It's in three years. We have to see where our lives are at and go from there. I'm not saying this to make you furrow your brows or cause panic; it's just the way things go."

Despite his warning, you can guess that many fans were alarmed and concerned online.

Of course, this statement can be interpreted in different ways, but it's a bit early to presume that Connor McDavid would want to test the free-agent market in three years.

But just imagine for a second if the best player in the NHL became a free agent! We might witness the most exciting July 1st in NHL history.

Well, we are still far from this scenario, as McDavid is still under contract for the next three seasons, and it's highly likely that he will give his all so that the Oilers can lift the Stanley Cup.

According to several sports betting sites, the Oilers are the second favorites, behind the Colorado Avalanche, to win it all in 2023-2024, and the team is expected to put on a great offensive show once again.

All that's left is to hope that the defense and especially the goaltenders will be up to the task, as expectations are once again very high in Edmonton for the return of the Stanley Cup to Canada.
