As of Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers had 7 days to decide whether they would match both offer sheets or not.
That being said, the Oilers may have already made a decision regarding one of their two players.
According to the well-respected Sportsnet insider, the Edmonton Oilers are expected to match the offer sheet made to young Dylan Holloway.
When Friedman makes a statement like that, it's not random. He wouldn't say something like that unless he had received privileged information.
So, expect Dylan Holloway to remain a member of the Edmonton Oilers. (No surprise)
However, in the case of Philip Broberg, things seem to be more complex, and this is where the Montreal Canadiens could get involved to help the Oilers.
Edmonton didn't necessarily need to free up space immediately on their salary cap to match the offer made to Dylan Holloway, but they do need a trade to match the one offered to Philip Broberg.
They have until next Tuesday, August 20th, to resolve this.
In our opinion, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens should get involved to complete this. Hughes is one of the few NHL GMs with so much cap space, and that's definitely an asset for him.
He capitalized on it in 2022 with the Sean Monahan trade.
Will he do the same in the coming days?
Rest assured that he will at least make a few phone calls, if he hasn't already.
Broberg, 23, was the Oilers' 8th overall pick in 2019 (1st round). He was drafted ahead of names like Cole Caufield, Trevor Zegras, and Matt Boldy.
Holloway, 22, was the Oilers' 14th overall pick in 2020 (1st round).
What's your prediction in this case?
