If some players like Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield or Alexander Romanov are considered as untouchables, there are others for whom the future with the organization is rather uncertain.
Moreover, on this subject, my colleagues at Fanadiens.com reported an article by Eric Engels, an analyst at Sportsnet, in which he discusses some topics regarding the Habs and he addressed the future of Jeff Petry, Jonathan Drouin and captain Shea Weber.
Engels said that he expects Weber's contract to be traded to a team looking to reach the salary cap next season and he even thinks that Kent Hughes could get something interesting in return.
As for Petry, the fact that he requested a trade a few months ago could lower his value somewhat, but it is mainly his annual salary of $6.25 million for the next three seasons that would slow down some teams to acquire him.
We remind you that if Petry was not traded at the deadline last March, it is because Kent Hughes was not able to get what he wanted on the market and according to Engels, the defenseman will leave the CH only if the value is up to the demands of the general manager of the Habs.
As for Drouin, the Quebec forward would have a better value than we think according to the analyst and he has only one year left on his contract. In his case, a trade might be the best solution for both parties. On the one hand, Drouin could revive his career with another team and on the other hand, the Habs would save 5.5 million on the payroll.
Will the Habs be able to get rid of these three players in the off-season?
It's hard to say, but we have to admit that no matter what happens with the rebuilding of the team, it's a safe bet that all three will be far away from Montreal when the team makes its return to the playoffs.
