In the last few minutes, the Minnesota Wild organization made an interesting announcement for Montreal Canadiens fans.

They just signed a big seven year contract extension with their young forward Matthew Boldy.

The deal will pay him an average of $7M annually. (49 millions in total)

Why is this interesting for CH fans? As we often mention, NHL agents and general managers rely on the best comparables to sign their contract extensions.

They also rely mostly on the most recent comparables, and with Cole Caufield seemingly on the verge of signing a big contract extension with the Montreal Canadiens, this pact just signed by Boldy is sure to be used as a solid comparable.

Caufield, 22, was drafted 15th overall in 2019 from the U.S. National Under-18 Team.

Boldy, 21, was drafted 12th overall in 2019 from the U.S. National Under-18 Team.

Caufield has averaged 36 goals and 57 points per 82 games since the start of his career.

Boldy has averaged 25 goals and 63 points, per 82 games, since the start of his career.

Caufield is playing 18 minutes per game this season.

Boldy is playing 18 minutes per game this season.

In short, we understand that they have very similar profiles for a player's agent, and it is certain that this will influence Cole Caufield's next contract.

In light of this, how much would you give Caufield?
