He is certainly one of the most exciting stories in the NHL this year, and is establishing himself as a solid player.
Many (in the NHL) are very disappointed not to have him on their club.
"WiFI's" contract, worth $828,333 a year, expires in the summer of 2024, so at the end of next season, and eventually, general manager Kent Hughes will have to think about offering him a contract extension because obviously, the longer he waits, the more the price is likely to rise. And Xhekaj will be eligible for that famous contract extension.
Marc Dumont, a former Montreal Canadiens employee and now a reporter for Montreal Hockey Now, just addressed the subject in no uncertain terms:
Do you feel the same way? Do you also believe that the Montreal Canadiens should extend Xhekaj's contract as soon as possible?
As for the price, we can possibly think of the second contract signed by Alexander Romanov, as a comparable (2.5 million per year, for three seasons). There would also be the contract of Brayden McNabb (2.5 million per year, for four seasons).
What do you think?
This will be a file to watch.
