Ever since joining the National Hockey League, after being selected to the top spot at the 2020 draft, Alexis Lafreniere has struggled to win.
In his rookie year, he collected 21 points, including 12 goals, in 56 games. This year he has only 13 points (10 goals), while he has played 45 games so far. It's still very hard for the 20-year-old.
But he is still young, and sometimes players develop more slowly than others, like Jonathan Huberdeau, for example.
Having said that, Jacques Martin, a former Montreal Canadiens head coach, commented on "Laffy":
«I liked his behaviour as a rookie last year. If we give him more ice time and a chance to play with better players, he will produce. I'm not worried about Lafrenière. Most of his games were on the third line with the Rangers. He had very little time on the power play.»
Hey, he's only 20, so let's wait before we call him a flop, okay?
