On Wednesday, Pierre LeBrun lit a fire when he mentioned that we should follow closely the Canadiens and the New York Rangers by March 21, the trade deadline. It seems that the Habs could very well help fill the needs of the Rangers and, New York has a very good pool of prospects.
Since LeBrun's tweet, there has been a lot of speculation from reporters and fans. In these, the names of some defenders have been named, such as Braden Schneider, Nils Lundkvist, Matthew Robertson and Zac Jones.
To follow up on these speculations, the New York journalist Larry Brooks mentions another prospect who could interest Montreal. This is defenseman Libor Hájek.
«Perusing Montreal's presumably available personnel, there isn't a player for whom I'd trade more than a mid-level prospect to acquire. Cap/talent/fit not there. Maybe Gorton still covets Hajek. -Larry Brooks"
Hájek is a 24-year-old defenseman nearing the end of his NHL entry-level deal. The Tampa Bay Lightning's 2nd-round pick (37th overall) in the 2016 draft doesn't seem to be in the organization's good graces, having been used only 14 times this season by the head coach Gerard Gallant.
The 6-foot-2 left-handed defenseman has played 91 NHL games and has 3 goals and 8 assists for a total of 11 points. It seems that Gorton may have the idea of making Hájek his personal project by repatriating him to Montreal.
