For many experts, the departure of Jeff Petry from Montreal is only a matter of time with the rebuild announced by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton. (with the Toffoli trade)

But for others, it is not so obvious that the defenseman will be traded by March 21.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN revealed during his appearance on Tony Marinaro's podcast, The Sick Podcast, that he believes that Jeff Petry has 50% chance of being traded by the trade deadline.

According to the insider, Petry's contract would be the main reason that would hinder certain teams from acquiring him.

«I would say it's 50/50, just because of the contract. »

With a salary of 5.5 million per year, the production of Petry this season is far from being a strong argument for a team that would need reinforcements for the playoffs, but it is clear that a change of scenery for him would do wonders.

LeBrun also spoke about the rumors regarding Jonathan Drouin and Mike Hoffman.

According to him, Drouin will not be traded before this year's trade deadline, but he may well be traded next year when his contract expires.

In the case of Hoffman, he seemed to wonder what the Canadian will do in his case.

«That's an example of a guy I don't think the Canadiens need to trade, but it's a matter of when the teams call, do they take the lead? The contract is not bad, but several teams would have preferred him as a rental player."

Do you believe that Jeff Petry will still be a member of the Canadiens on March 22?
