A third trade between Montreal and Calgary? Interesting statement from Flames GM Brad Treliving

The trade deadline is now less than a month away and the Vancouver Canucks have started the trade ball rolling with the departure of Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders.

Like every year, we often see an important transaction a few weeks before the deadline and if we go back to last year, we remember that Kent Hughes had completed his first transaction as GM of the Canadiens in a similar context.

He sent forward Tyler Toffoli to the Calgary Flames and that deal kicked off the 2021-2022 trade period. Hughes has made other trades since then, but let's look at a potential trade involving the Habs and the Flames once again.

As reported by Nicolas Desrosiers of Marqueur.com, Kent Hughes' counterpart with the Flames, Brad Treliving, will most likely be in buyer's mode and will want to bring depth to his team, particularly on the offensive end.

At least that's what he told reporter Julian McKenzie of The Athletic in a recent interview, and he even said he's open to acquiring a rental player. He has a great working relationship with Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

Let's just say that it's a good thing because there are a few available for the Habs (rental forwards). We can think of Jonathan Drouin, Mike Hoffman and Evgeny Dadonov who should not cost too much when the March 3rd deadline comes around.

But if Kent Hughes wants to get a good return in a possible trade between Montreal and Calgary, he should rather look at Christian Dvorak and Josh Anderson, of which there were some rumors in the past that linked them to the Flames.

Dvorak is a defensively responsible player who could have an interesting role on a third line and Anderson is a forward tailor-made for the style of play advocated by Flames coach Darryl Sutter.

Could we see another trade between the Habs and the Flames by March 3rd?

It's possible because Hughes and Treliving have developed a good relationship over the last year (as confirmed by Treliving).

Let's also remember that the Habs' GM did the Flames' GM a favor in the Sean Monahan trade... It could very well be that we will see this kind of scenario once again in the coming weeks.
