However, the 19 year old has been working hard for over a year and a half to become a better hockey player, a better teammate, but most of all a better person.
The London Knights defenseman still has a long way to go to be forgiven for his actions, but one thing is certain, he is on the right track.
The proof? Even with a change in the Tricolore's management, while it could have been very easy to dismiss this problematic case out of hand, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton decided instead to work with the organization's prospect.
If he hadn't progressed on a human level, Hughes would never have offered him his NHL entry-level contract last fall.
In fact, the organization's young defenseman offered a good reason to like him, despite his controversial background, when he had a great message for Habs fans.
During an interview with Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports, Mailloux spoke in French and had this to say:
He even continued to say with a smile on his face:
Mailloux definitely has the potential to make his mark very soon with the CH and we can be happy with the development on and off the ice that he has made since being drafted.
In addition to his imposing 6-foot-3, 217-pound stature, he is having a good season in the OHL, racking up 17 goals and 36 points in 38 games so far. He is the second leading goal scorer among defensemen in the league.
His full interview with Anthony Martineau will be available next Tuesday.
