Knowing this, one wonders which team might have a surplus of right-handed defensemen.
It is extremely rare that a club has a surplus of right-handed defensemen, but there is one that currently fits this criteria.
As Marco D'Amico mentions in his most recent article on Montreal Hockey Now, the Canadiens and Los Angeles Kings could be interesting trade partners.
Why? Simple. The Habs need right-handed defensemen, while the Kings have too many and they can't play them all.
Because they have too many right-handed defensemen in their organization, there is a lot of congestion and some young players have to play on the opposite side. This is notably the case for Sean Durzi and Brandt Clarke. This is really not ideal for their development.
According to some information, the Kings would like to trade a right-handed player.
Matt Roy, who is currently the best scorer among the Kings' defensemen (along with Sean Durzi, another right-hander they have in surplus), would be available for a trade. Ditto for Sean Walker, who has 54 points in 167 career NHL games.
Among the youngsters, Jordan Spence and Helge Grans are among those who are plagued by too many right-handed defensemen in Los Angeles.
There is growing interest in a possible trade between the Habs and Kings, especially if Los Angeles is looking to add a forward to help them win right away.
Jonathan Drouin? Mike Hoffman? Christian Dvorak? Evgeny Dadonov? There are plenty of possibilities.
Which would you target for the Kings? A more established player like Walker, or a youngster like Spence? The price to pay will obviously be different.
