Tonight, after a few games of watching the Canadiens from the stands, after being left out in favor of young defensemen Justin Barron and Jordan Harris, Chris Wideman was back in the lineup and he had a great game.
Beyond his solid performance, he's getting a lot of reaction tonight for his post-game media availability.
Instead of criticizing decisions or trying to use his solid game to "sell" himself and argue that he doesn't deserve to be out of the lineup, he had this to say instead:
"I will never accept Caufield and Suzuki getting in trouble or getting shuffled on the ice. I will never hesitate to jump in if needed, they are too important to our team. Because that's what's important, our team." - Chris Wideman, who we should remember is the one who got into a fight with Mark Scheifele earlier this season. He then added this:
"I am so lucky and blessed to be here. Last season I had to pay for my sticks." - Wideman saying that he obviously wants to play every game, but that he fully understands the coach's decisions and wants what's best for his teammates and his team.
Finally:
"On a team, you need guys who play more for the logo up front than the name back. Wideman is like that." - Martin St. Louis
