The best scorer in the history of the NHL has only one name and that is Alex Ovechkin. Honestly, the "wonder" is still the best player in history, but despite his 894 goals, he was not as formidable a scorer as the "Czar". He lacked the shot and instinct to destroy goalies.
In those days, goalies protected the net standing up, they were much smaller in front of the net and, above all, much less technical. It's not just me who thinks so, but also Michel Therrien, who raved about the great number 8 on Thursday night on the JiC show.
"He's incredible. I don't want to take anything away from the other good scorers, but for me, he's the best scorer of all time. I say that because there's a big difference between the quality of goaltending today and the quality of goaltending in years past," said Therrien.
The worst part is that the great number 8 is 36 years old and he doesn't want to slow down, he still breathes the same passion for his job... to score again and again. He is too often underestimated because of the many comparisons with Sidney Crosby, but he remains a war machine. Nothing less!
By the way, some old rumors indicate that Alex Ovechkin would be 40 years old and not 36... But those are just old rumors about some Russian players.
