Just arrived at the training camp of his new team, the New York Islanders, the young defenseman Alexander Romanov is already causing a stir among his new teammates.
We had the opportunity to see him a little bit in Montreal, but Romanov is a very entertaining, friendly and cheerful young man. His new compatriots, including goaltender Semyon Varlamov, have quickly noticed this.
Romanov is already getting a positive reaction in the Islanders' room:
"He's funny. He always enters the locker room with a big smile on his face. He's already making fun of everyone. He's got a great personality. It's nice to have him on the team. The guys already talk about him a lot."
- Semyon Varlamov
Romanov has a golden opportunity to make a splashy debut with his new team, as he currently forms a pair with the excellent Noah Dobson on the Islanders' top pair.
Speaking of Dobson, he too had good words for Romanov:
"Alex likes to be competitive when he plays. Forwards that cross the middle of the ice have to be aware that he likes to [go to contact]. Obviously, the more practices we have, the more games we have and the more opportunities we have to play with each other, the more comfortable we'll be. He's a great player and I'm excited to play with him."
- Noah Dobson
Goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin added a layer, having housed Romanov last summer among others:
"He's funny and full of energy. A good guy. He's a very good defender, a very aggressive and strong guy. He'll be a big help to our team."
Clearly, Romanov is already making his mark in the New York Islanders locker room, and his teammates already seem to like him a lot. Let's face it, that's not surprising.
True to form, he laughs with everyone and brings that passion to a locker room that sorely needed it.
