Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes made several interesting additions this summer, but he also lost a few pieces.

One of the most important is young defenseman Alexander Romanov.

Since he was traded in the 2022 draft, many experts and fans have noted that there is a gap to fill on the CH's blue line and that Romanov has never been replaced.

Hughes and Gorton should therefore sign or acquire a replacement for Alex Romanov...

Not necessarily, because, as some experts are saying, the Habs may already have Romanov's replacement under contract.

On October 4, 2021, the organization contracted the young Arber Xhekaj (21 years old), a 6 feet 4 inches and 220 pounds strong back.

Recall that, as reported by our colleagues at Fanadiens.com,Kent Hughes clearly mentioned that this trade (Romanov's) was made because of the CH's excellent backup on the left side of the defense, which is a pretty logical explanation.

In the last few hours, two observers have actually pointed out that Alex Romanov's replacement may already be under contract in Montreal and he goes by the name of Arber Xhekaj.

Xhekaj is very physical, tough and always goes to the defense of his teammates. He is very reminiscent of a (bigger) Romanov!

Over the next few weeks, CH fans will really get to know him better, and more importantly, appreciate him. The loss of "Romy" is disappointing, but Xhekaj could be the answer.

It would be surprising if he played 82 games for Martin St-Louis' team this season, but his name is still worth keeping in mind.
