In less than two weeks, the 2022 National Hockey League draft will be held in Montreal, and in less than three weeks, the famous opening day of the free-agent market will take place.
Several interesting names will be available and free as air, including that of former Tricolore defenseman Ben Chiarot.
We say "former Tricolore defenseman" here, but that could change soon.
According to information reported by Maxim Guérin, Chiarot would like to come back to play for the CH and he would like to sign in Montreal this summer!
Chiarot's agent has reportedly already contacted Kent Hughes to let him know of his client's intentions, imagine that. That's a big move.
All of this is to be taken with a grain of salt and it will be interesting to watch, but it's still worth talking about and asking the question.
How would you like to see Kent Hughes sign Ben Chiarot this summer? The price could be around 4 or 5 million per season, for a few years. The veteran loves Montreal and could certainly come in and help the youngsters, but it's the payroll that could be a problem.
Remember that Ben Chiarot was traded to the Florida Panthers a few months ago (just before the 2022 trade deadline) for: a first round pick in 2023 (unprotected), prospect Ty Smilanic and a fourth round pick in 2022.
Looking back, we can definitely say that this is a very solid deal for Kent Hughes! Imagine if we see a turnaround and he returns to Montreal this summer!
