There are several links:
- His very long-time trio mate, Phillip Danault, is now in Los Angeles.
- Former Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin, who signed Gallagher to his current contract, is a senior advisor to Kings GM Rob Blake and could become an assistant GM.
- Dustin Brown, a player who has the same style as Gallagher and made about the same amount of money, has just retired.
Could Los Angeles have their "new Dustin Brown", with Gallagher? They're probably asking themselves that question and that's kind of what Stu Cowan raises here.
With the Canadiens in the midst of a rebuild and general manager Kent Hughes really looking to trim his payroll, a trade between the two teams seems like an interesting possibility to explore.
Cowan does point out that the Kings will free up some salary cap room now that 37-year-old winger Dustin Brown's contract expires ($5.875 million).
That should leave Los Angeles with about $22 million in cap space, which is more than enough to cover Gallagher's $6.5 million annual fee, according to CapFriendly.
Gallagher would fit in well with the Kings and he would have a chance to win a Stanley Cup there, which is what he ultimately wants.
The rebuild is over there and the Tricolore's feisty number 11 is exactly their type of player.
Do you think a trade is possible between Montreal and Los Angeles, including Brendan Gallagher?
