Since Phillip Danault left the Habs last summer to join the Los Angeles Kings, all the experts are unanimous in saying that the organization made a mistake by letting him go.
The Quebec forward had a career-high 27 goals and his team leads 3-2 in the series against the powerful Edmonton Oilers. In addition to excelling in the face-off circle, Danault is on a streak with five points in five games.
That said, Canadiens fans must be missing #24 a lot and as reported by Jeff Drouin of Fanadiens.com, Michel Bergeron admitted during his appearance on TVA Sports' JiC that the Habs made a mistake and that in his opinion, Danault wanted to stay with the Habs.
The tiger added by mentioning that the money that was given to Brendan Gallagher should have been given to Danault.
"He wanted to stay in Montreal. It's obvious. What a mistake. We gave it to Brendan Gallagher! If he wins against Edmonton, the pizza will be a little bigger. It's going to be "all dressed!"
While Danault has shined this season, in the hot California sun, with a 27-goal haul, Gallagher has had a pretty rough season with just seven goals and 24 points in 56 games. To think there are five more seasons left on his $6.5 million a year contract, while his former center gets a million less for the same amount of time.
We still don't know what the organization's strategy will be for Gallagher's future with the Habs, and since we know that Kent Hughes is not very keen on the idea of buying out contracts, it could very well be that fans will find the time long with number 11, who has been a shadow of his former self for the last two seasons.
