After his acquisition from the Calgary Flames, along with a first round pick, for future considerations, many observers assumed that Sean Monahan's stint with the Montreal Canadiens would be short-lived.
Not so fast.
The tide is clearly turning. Now that he is finally 100% healthy, Monahan seems to be back to the dominant player he once was.
According to some, Kent Hughes' original plan was possibly to trade him at a high price, if possible, at the trade deadline.
However, could he sign him long-term instead? Remember, he is only 28 years old.
Here is Jean-Charles Lajoie's prediction, during his show on TVA Sports :
"Kent Hughes' plan A is to "casher in" by sending him to another team at the trade deadline. But he can make the organization think so hard to change the plan. My prediction is that he will average a point per game at the trade deadline. That means there will be huge offers for Monahan if he stays healthy. That's something to watch. But I can also see Monahan getting along with the Canadiens long term. He's so much in the team's DNA.
It would take a huge offer to get him out of Montreal if things continue to go well for him," said Lavoie. He wants to start a family. He's happy to be playing in the East. I can't wait to see how this file will progress. Many teams dream of him being available at the trade deadline."
Sean Monahan has scored 465 points in 661 NHL games.
