The team's first pick in the last draft played two preseason games, tallying an assist and averaging about fifteen minutes per game. However, the Canadiens management decided to send him back to Switzerland for further development.
That said, nobody is really surprised by this decision from the organization. But as reported by Rumeursdetransaction.com, we shouldn't rule out the idea that Reinbacher might join the Canadiens during the season.
His team, Kloten HC in the Swiss league, isn't having a great start and could potentially end their season on March 4th.
Regular seasons in Europe usually finish earlier than in North America. The Canadiens' former scout, Grant McCagg, suggested the possibility of the young defenseman coming to Montreal after his team's season ends.
That would leave 20 games in the Canadiens' season, and rather than letting him sit idle in Europe, why not give him some games with the main squad? This idea makes a lot of sense and would provide a confidence boost for the youngster, allowing him to play in the world's premier hockey league.
While this scenario might still be a way off, the Canadiens' management will do what's best for their young defensive prospect. And as the team might potentially be out of the playoff race by next March, Kent Hughes could evaluate Reinbacher and mentally prepare the young man for North American hockey.
