After a very promising start, things are getting more complicated for forward Patrik Laine within the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Many of us thought that Laine was in Montreal for good and that he would sign a contract extension with the Habs at the end of his current deal, but that now seems less and less certain.

Georges Laraque took the lead during a recent show on BPM Sports radio, questioning Laine's future in Montreal.

Georges Laraque doesn't believe Patrik Laine has a future with the Montreal Canadiens, especially after his current contract ends

Laine, who is signed until the summer of 2026 at $8.7 million per year, was benched by Martin St-Louis yesterday.

Laraque mentioned that he is starting to understand a lot of things.

«I understand why Columbus gave him to the Canadiens. I see less and less Laine being a guy in the future of the team..»

- Georges Laraque

He even goes as far as saying he doesn't see him on the Canadiens' second line next season.

«At 5-on-5, I think we don't see him enough.

He creates nothing!

He should be dominant.

Don't forget. The guy is still making 9 million a year.

When you have a contract like that, you're supposed to be the best player on the team.»

- Georges Laraque, who sees Laine less and less as part of the core of the Canadiens.

See the excerpt in question and Gonzo's response:

Let's really hope Laine can make a strong comeback because it would be incredible for both him and the Montreal Canadiens.

And you, do you think the Canadiens should extend Patrik Laine's contract?
