On Sunday night, against the Canucks, the forward did not help his cause when he made a more than questionable gesture towards Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Bruins' number 63 was suspended for three games because of this crunch.
After the game, the Halifax native explained the passion of Canadian hockey fans.
"The thing about Canada is that they are really, really passionate about hockey. Hockey is a way of life in Canada. There are a lot of passionate fans."
Marchand acknowledges that hockey is very important to fans. He even admits that sometimes fans go too far for their team's players.
"That being said, there are a lot of teams that don't do well in Canada and that's hard on the players. Their families get harassed, their kids get harassed at school," he said.
Marchand concluded the interview with a little tip of the hat to the Canadiens' fans in particular.
"The fans can be a big part of the failure of Canadian teams. They make players' lives miserable sometimes. They definitely push players to play for teams that don't have that kind of fan base. So the fans have to look in the mirror too."
That's quite a statement from the Bruins player. With words like that, it's a safe bet that CH fans will give him a warm welcome at the next game at the Bell Centre between the two teams.
