The rumor has been circulating for a while, but in the last few minutes, the Montreal Canadiens organization has confirmed big news concerning the legend Guy Lafleur.
It's so well deserved!
"Highway 50 will now be named Guy-Lafleur Highway, in honor of the Canadiens legend. The announcement regarding the highway, which passes through Lafleur's hometown, was made official on May 4th." - Montreal Canadiens.
And here's an excerpt from the press release:
"MONTREAL - The Quebec Government announced Thursday morning that Highway 50, which connects the Outaouais region to the rest of the province, will now be named Guy-Lafleur Highway, in honor of the Canadiens legend.
The inauguration ceremony took place in Thurso, Lafleur's hometown. Guy's mother, Pierrette, his sisters, Suzanne, Gisèle, Lise, and Lucie, as well as his wife, Lise, and his two sons, Martin and Mark, were present for the announcement.
After the opening speech by the mayor of the municipality, Benoit Lauzon, Prime Minister François Legault took the microphone to make the news official. It goes without saying that his statement was greeted with warm applause, followed by the resounding chants of several "Guy! Guy! Guy!"
Of course, we salute this initiative and we are already really looking forward to hitting the road and exploring the Guy-Lafleur Highway, in his honor.
