Although he has not played a single game with the Habs, the case of defenseman Logan Mailloux has been the subject of much discussion in recent months.

The team's first round pick in 2021, his selection was frowned upon by many experts due to allegations of sexual misconduct against him and he was even suspended until early January in the Ontario Junior League.

Now that the dust has settled, the right-handed defenseman has looked good this season with the London Knights, where he has nine points in 12 games but is currently on the injured list.

But with the arrival of Justin Barron and Jordan Harris, what are Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's plans for Mailloux?

As reported by my colleague Alexandre Desrosiers of RumorsandTransaction.com, the Habs prospect's case was the subject of a very interesting discussion between Tony Marinaro and Brendan Kelly on The Sick Podcast.

Marinaro mentioned that despite the controversy surrounding his selection, he believes the Habs should retain Mailloux's services and give him a chance to shine, but he wouldn't be surprised if he was involved in a trade this summer.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he was traded. I also think the Habs have a responsibility, now that he's been drafted and they made that mistake - many will say that - but now that they've drafted him, they have a responsibility to continue his rehabilitation, to show him the right path, not to give up on him and not let him slip away. Call me naive, but I think they're going to keep Logan Mailloux."

For his part, Brendan Kelly is of the opposite opinion and says that Kent Hughes should trade the Habs prospect, mentioning that the fact that he asked the team not to draft him could make the new management seriously consider it. After all, he was selected by the old management.

"It's important to remember, I'm not picking on this young man. He made a mistake, everyone is entitled to a chance to redeem himself and have a second chance. But he said publicly that he didn't want to be drafted and the Habs, especially Marc Bergevin, said, "We're going to draft you anyway." And that hurt the Habs image a lot."

It will be interesting to follow this file closely in the coming months and also to see, in the event of a transaction, what value Logan Mailloux may well have across the NHL.
