Why is this the time to thank Craig Rivet? The reason is quite simple. If Nick Suzuki is donning a Habs jersey today, it's in part because of the former #52 Habs player who was Saku Koivu's best buddy once upon a time.
Let's break it down.
On February 25, 2007, the Montreal Canadiens traded Craig Rivet with a 5th round pick in 2008 to the San Jose Sharks in return for Josh Gorges and a 1st round pick who became Max Pacioretty.
On September 10, 2018, the Montreal Canadiens sent their then captain Max Pacioretty to the Golden Knights in return for Tomas Tatar, Nick Suzuki and a 2nd round pick that became Samuel Fagemo.
It's a long way to go, but it's still a reality. Like the Eric Lindros trade, which has a big "family tree" when you break it down.
Anyway, thanks, Craig!
