Let's be clear, I am a Brady Tkachuk fan. Despite the fact that he is currently in a situation that calls his leadership into question, he is still the type of player I admire. Physical, pesky, disruptive, the perfect candidate for the title of best power forward in the League.
However, just for the sake of discussion, is an organization better off building around a Tkachuk or a Nick Suzuki? This question was asked to Guillaume Latendresse and Benoît Brunet on Tuesday night on 98.5 Sports.
Not surprisingly, the two former Canadiens answered Nick Suzuki. If Latendresse thought long and hard before giving his answer, Brunet was unequivocal in mentioning Nick Suzuki's name.
Suzuki has just signed a new eight-year, $63-million deal, while Tkachuk is still waiting for a new contract. In short, if Brunet and Latendresse choose Suzuki before Tkachuk, it is because there is a certain logic.
First of all, Suzuki's style of play is more durable than Brady Tkachuk's, who is likely to visit the infirmary more often. Add to that the fact that, as Benoit Brunet said, you build a team from the center up. That makes sense!
All in all, Suzuki's contract is just perfect, no matter what some people think!
