All of these players have made their mark on the game of hockey over the past 25 years and they richly deserve their place among the greats. They also have one important thing in common, they all started their careers in the mid to late 90's, which strangely enough coincides with the beginning of the decline of the Habs.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the team's last Stanley Cup win and since then, it must be said that of all the players who have worn a Habs uniform and started their careers after 1993, very few have any chance of being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
It is on this subject that Kevin Vallé and the journalist of La Presse, Richard Labbé, elaborated on the airwaves of 91.9 Sports and let's say that the proposed candidates were not very numerous.
When the question of who will be the next Habs player to enter the hockey Hall of Fame came up, Vallé didn't hesitate for a second and mentioned the name of Carey Price.
He was still the best goalie in the world for a while, but if you compare his win total of 361 with Luongo's 489, it's still a long way off.
Afterwards, Labbé mentioned that in his opinion, the only other Habs player who could be inducted into the Hall of Fame would be former captain Saku Koivu. However, the journalist added that his record of 832 career points is not enough to make it into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Listeners also suggested the names of Shea Weber and Andrei Markov, but the discussion was rather short on that.
This would mean that only Carey Price would potentially have a chance to enter the Hockey Hall of Fame according to Vallé and Labbé.
Despite the fact that Price has had a great career in the NHL, it's still a sad fact that very few Canadiens players have been outstanding enough since 1993 to be among the greatest in hockey history.
Guy Carbonneau was the last member of the Habs to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2019, but he had his best years before the last Stanley Cup win.
Maybe in 20 years or so, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield could be part of the discussion, but for now, we could be waiting a very long time to see the tricolore uniform in the Hall of Fame.
