The Montreal Canadiens are looking for a new assistant coach.
Many fans and observers have suggested the name of Patrick Roy, but before possibly thinking about the Habs, Roy must make a decision on his future in the QMJHL.
Remember that Roy took many by surprise during the Quebec Remparts' end-of-season review, by questioning his future behind the team's bench. Since this statement from the former NHL star goaltender, speculation has been rife as to Roy's future, not only with the Remparts but in the field hockey world in general.
We reported this morning that an announcement was imminent in this file (according to Stéphane Turcot), and well, the verdict is in.
Let's remember that three options were available to Roy:
1- Remain head coach and general manager of the Remparts
2- Remain only as general manager of the Remparts
3- Leave the Quebec Remparts.
THE VERDICT
See what the TVA network has just published:
See what Turcot was just mentioning:
So Roy would have chosen option #1, and he would remain as the Remparts' head coach and general manager (at least another year)
We're talking possibly one last go around, in the QMJHL, for Patrick Roy.
As for a potential opportunity as assistant coach of the Montreal Canadiens, this decision does not affect this file. If the offer (from the CH) comes, he will certainly have to reconsider.
More details will follow!
