Today, it was Jimmy Murphy's (Montreal Hockey Now) turn to reveal some very interesting information.
Not surprisingly, following the recent AHL playoffs, Cayden Primeau's value has exploded on the trade market and some teams have inquired about his availability.
Notably, according to an anonymous NHL executive, Primeau is the talk of the town (positively) right now and his name is circulating a lot.
According to the same anonymous executive, the New Jersey Devils are very fond of Primeau. They would like to acquire him and they are very active on the phone right now.
This summer, they absolutely want to acquire a young goalie and Primeau is a big target for them.
Of course, Kent Hughes recently said that the only NHL-caliber starting goalie in the Montreal Canadiens organization is Carey Price. Has his opinion changed since then? Is he open to trading Primeau?
It's hard to say, but it will be very interesting to watch.
Given that the team interested here has the coveted second overall pick in the upcoming draft, Murphy is just raising the possibility that a GM could offer a package deal including a young goalie, in exchange for the second overall pick.
Knowing that Kent Hughes would obviously love to get his hands on the second overall pick, and knowing that the Devils love Cayden Primeau, is there a possible trade here?
It would look something like this:
To MONTREAL: 2nd overall pick in 2022
TO THE DEVILS: Cayden Primeau + 26th overall + a 2nd round pick
Could the many rumors linking the Montreal Canadiens to this famous second overall pick become a reality?
We will have the answer soon. For details:
