Since the arrival of Martin St-Louis at the head of the Canadiens, many have mentioned how impressive his first speech was. However, nothing came out about the extent of his words that day.
During his recent appearance on The Hockey Think Tank podcast, CH defenseman Chris Wideman added to the moment. Without revealing the exact content, he explained that Martin's first speech was impressive and, more importantly, pivotal to what happened next.
"When he arrived, he called the whole team. The management staff, the support staff, everybody in the locker room. And we have people in the organization in Montreal who have been there for over 30 years. And they left that meeting saying that was the best speech they've ever heard in hockey.
And I can't reveal what was said, but he's just one of those people who, you know, I'm sure there are skeptics. When they hired him and he was coaching, I think, in bantam hockey he said... But he's a guy who really believes in himself and what he does. And what he did for our team, I mean guys, we started playing above the level we were playing before, but we were having so much fun getting better. He was coaching us not only as players, but as individuals." - Chris Wideman
Listening to him talk, we can see how the players seem ready for anything for St. Louis. Beyond the team, the new coach seems to care even more about the players, something that is greatly appreciated by the players.
We wish we could have been there for that magical moment!
