The team's roster has essentially been gutted and they are the favorites to enter the NHL draft lottery with teams like the Arizona Coyotes and Montreal Canadiens. The interesting thing about the Blackhawks, of course, is that they have two superstar players hanging on to the glory days in Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Almost the entire core of the Blackhawks from their glory years is gone, except for those two.
So...what's next?
Toews himself has already indicated that being part of a rebuild doesn't sound appealing to him. That sounds like a guy who wants out but is too polite to say so clearly.
As for Kane? He hasn't said much, but there are even more rumors surrounding him and his future with the team.
NHL tipster Andy Strickland recently reported on the Cam & Strick podcast that he had heard rumors linking Kane to the Dallas Stars.

Interesting... That would be huge!
The Stars could be a good fit for the American forward with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin still having one or two good seasons left. The Texas team will likely be stuck with the huge contracts of the two veterans, so why not try to go for it once or twice more? With Jake Oettinger in goal, the hopes are still there.
As of today, the Stars have $11.46M in free space under the salary cap according to Capfriendly. So they have enough space to accommodate Kane's salary, which is $10.5M for one more season.
