Earlier in the day, the Montreal Canadiens agreed to terms with David Savard on a three-year contract worth $3.5 million per season annually.

A very important acquisition for Marc Bergevin because of the possible absence of Shea Weber for the next campaign. The newcomer officially delivered his first comments as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.
One thing is clear, Savard is very happy to be in town. According to him, a few factors weighed in on his decision. If Shea Weber had not been injured, this outcome probably would not have happened. Marc Bergevin has been very aggressive in showing interest in Savard.

Savard did not hesitate when the Habs offer was on the table. Several teams had shown interest in him, but the Montreal's offer was too good to refuse, especially for his family.
"It was a family decision. Other teams approached us, but the Habs offer was the best for my family. Regardless of the salary, when the offer came in, we said yes immediately," Savard said.
Moreover, by signing with Montreal, Savard is finally fulfilling his childhood dream of playing for the Montreal Canadiens.
"It's something I couldn't refuse. Montreal has always been a dream of mine since I was little!"
The important thing for Savard was above all the "fit", rather than the length of the contract or the money...
A man with a big heart this David Savard! He will probably be loved here.
