In recent games, it has been common to see Martin St. Louis use four forwards on the power play, a pretty clear indication that the defensive rebound is lacking. In fact, it has been lacking for a few years now, especially on the left side.
This will undoubtedly be an aspect of the game that the Habs' new management will want to find a solution to for the start of next season. As reported by David Armoni of Marker.com, a Boston reporter may have an idea to revive the Habs' massive offense.
Jimmy Murphy, who covers Bruins activities for Boston Hockey Now, suggests that Kent Hughes should possibly look into the services of St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug.
The former Bruins man would be the ideal candidate according to Murphy to find solutions to the Habs' problems on the power play, and his presence could restore a luster that the Habs had lost since the departure of a certain Andrei Markov.
Krug is having a respectable season this year with 39 points in 59 games, including 18 on the power play.
However, is it realistic to think that the 31-year-old defenseman could be traded to the Canadiens?
It's hard to say at this point as Krug is under contract with the Blues until 2026-2027 at a salary of $6.5 million per year.
But since the arrival of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton in Montreal, there have been a few surprises and we can bet that they will have a few more in store for us in the coming months.
