As we continue to dissect the very interesting and generous interview offered by Dominique Ducharme, to Marc Antoine Godin (The Athletic), we have just come across a striking passage.
In particular, the former Montreal Canadiens head coach surprisingly agreed to comment on the identity of the organization's famous next captain.
Let's just say that he is in a good position to judge and he has his own idea:
"A guy like Edmundson has a presence in the locker room. Nick is a guy who thrives on the challenge and likes to make a difference. Gally shows up to work every day the same way; he's certainly an example. In my opinion it's going to be among those candidates."
According to Dom Ducharme, the next captain of the Montreal Canadiens will therefore be one of the following names: Joel Edmundson, Nick Suzuki or Brendan Gallagher. Interesting!
Which one would you choose? Ducharme added this:
"Eventually, in the future, I think Suzuki will become a captain. But is it going to be right away? It's going to depend on whether they feel he's ready or not."
That gives a good idea and says a lot about Suzuki. It's now looking more and more obvious that he'll be named captain someday.
Speaking of youth, Ducharme was also asked about Cole Caufield and he had some interesting answers:
