It's not necessarily for the right reasons, but Janne Niinimaa is a well-known name among Montreal Canadiens fans.

He has recently come back into the news after being mentioned in a passage from Pierre Gervais's new book:

"This player falls into the category of the few not-so-great ones I've come across over the decades. But he couldn't reach the level of a Cammalleri or a Niinimaa. He wasn't very friendly, but he still treated us with respect."

Niinimaa, acquired from the Dallas Stars in the Mike Ribeiro trade, is once again making headlines for the wrong reasons today.

Janne Niinimaa Found Guilty of Fraud

The verdict has indeed been delivered. The player who has appeared in 741 regular season NHL games is guilty of fraud. A serious crime everywhere, but especially there.

Prosecutors in Helsinki accused Niinimaa of intentionally failing to pay his taxes over a long period. He owes them a lot of money.

"He was sentenced to four months of suspended prison, which means he can stay out of jail as long as he doesn't break any of the conditions of his probation." - Via TVA Sports

More details to follow.

According to CapFriendly, he would have earned $19.35 million during his career in North America.

So, unfortunately, it's another former Habs player who has criminal troubles with the law.
