In an interview with Marc De Foy of the Journal de Montréal, Guy Lafleur spoke about the Tricolore's current situation.
"It takes a click. Otherwise, it doesn't work. But, on the other hand, things have to change in this organization."
As for the future general manager of the CH, Lafleur is convinced that there is only one qualified candidate for the job.
"I don't know the other candidates whose names are being mentioned in the media. However, I don't see anyone other than Patrick to deal with the situation that prevails with the Habs."
Following the firing of Marc Bergevin, Geoff Molson hired Jeff Gorton as vice-president of hockey operations. Gorton will bring his expertise to the next GM in order to build the best possible team.
If many believe that a duo composed of Gorton and Roy would not be a good match, Lafleur does not hide the fact that there will need to have an agreement between the two men.
"The important thing is that Patrick and Jeff Gorton can get along. Let them give him a one-year contract if they have to. They can fire him if it doesn't work out," he said.
On the subject of Bergevin, the number 10 believes that he has been at the head of the Tricolore a few years too long.
"Ten years is such a long time! In any case, the contracts of general managers are too long. It should take three years to build and three years to win."
With the decision not coming until after the holidays, it's certain that the rumors will keep coming between now and January. In short, is Roy the best candidate available?
