If there was one player in particular that made it easy for Cole Caufield to enter the pros, it was Corey Perry. The veteran acted as a real mentor, if not a big brother to Caufield last season.
Tonight, it will be in the uniform of the Tampa Bay Lightning that Corey Perry will make his return to the Bell Centre against his former teammates.
It's a situation that Caufield finds particularly strange heading into the game.
"It's going to be really weird to play him, but there are no friends on the ice, so I'm going to give him a little bit of a hard time tonight."
Adversary or not, Perry will always be a role model for Caufield.
"He's such a good guy, both on and off the ice. He's someone, I'm always going to look up to and go to for advice when needed."
The young American even admitted that he still didn't realize he was once Corey Perry's teammate. Obviously, it's quite an honor for the No. 22.
"People like him, who you watch play growing up and all of a sudden you're in the same room with them, it doesn't make sense to me."
While fans are still bitter towards Corey Perry for choosing to go to the enemy, there is no doubt that his teammates have fond memories of him. The former Habs #94 was obviously well liked by his peers, both for his hockey and leadership skills.
Welcome back, Corey!
