We learned some pretty big news at the beginning of last week, on RDS: Kent Hughes called the GM of the Washington Capitals, to try to acquire goaltender Ilya Samsonov.
There have been many speculations and rumors since, but we weren't sure what the Caps would like to receive in exchange for their Russian goalie...until today.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has just learned that, according to sources, Washington has identified three players (in the entire NHL) that they would really like to acquire, three players that they will target first.
We're talking here about: Andrew Copp (Winnipeg), Calle Jarnkrok (Seattle) and Artturi Lehkonen (Montreal).
Copp is probably not available, so that leaves Jarnkrok and Lehkonen. It's interesting, because the Finnish forward of the Canadiens continues to increase his value from game to game, and even before his recent very hot streak, Frank Seravalli argued that he had the value of a first round pick.
Would a trade involving goalie Samsonov and Lehkonen be possible? Remember that the Caps want at least one veteran goalie in exchange.
Good news! With the performances of Samuel Montembeault, Jake Allen is probably available too.
Could Allen and Lehkonen bring back promising goaltender Samsonov? Would you like this trade?
One thing is sure, we now know, from very reliable sources, that the Habs do like Samsonov and that Lehkonen is a big target for the Caps.
More details to come...
